				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve not visited Canterbury Cathedral before. It was quite as I expected: huge, impressive, with elegant columns. What I didn&#8217;t anticipate was how warm it was inside &#8211; very welcome on an extremely cold day.</p>

<p>Someone wanted to make the cloister cat warm and comfortable too but I don&#8217;t think it will be back until the builders have gone.</p>

<p>For centuries pilgrims came to Canterbury to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket, murdered in 1170. I like the way the site of the murder is marked today: a place for quiet contemplation.</p>
